You will notice that many of the names on this list are also personal names and would sound just as good on a baby as on a puppy.
Why?
Our data shows that dog lovers are increasingly turning to human names for their pets every year. This reflects the wider cultural tendency to view dogs as full members of the family rather than "just" pets.
In the past, male and female dog names were less likely to be personalized for the dog. For example, a male dog might be called Rex, Duke, or Rover, while a female dog might be called Lady or Princess.

These days, however, you're more likely to hear Oscar, Zoey, or Emma calling in the vet's waiting room.
Still not sure which nickname to choose? You're not alone. Many  pet parents need time to try out various options.
If you're having a hard time deciding, keep in mind that a creative dog name can come from many different sources of inspiration, such as your favorite foods, books or celebrities or dog breed.
For example, a Chihuahua mix puppy might have a Latin-inspired name like Coco, while a German dog breed might have a name like Heidi.
Another consideration in choosing your dog's name is dog training, which is of particular importance for puppies. When teaching your new dog to respond to commands such as sit, stay, or come, you'll want to make sure his name isn't confusing.
In other words, avoid puppy names that sound like a common dog training signal, like "Bit," which could easily be interpreted as "sit." Many canine experts recommend choosing a name with at least two syllables and a chant or vowel at the end.
Of course, what matters most is that the name of the dog you choose escapes you easily.
We are fans of the "backdoor test" for selecting dog names. It's pretty much what it sounds like: stand at the back door and call out the name of your potential new dog. Say "Chanel, it's dinner time!" or "Matisse, forget it!" it helps to take the name of your imagination and turn it into reality.
The above names too boring for you?
